ECar Event – Invitation for Wednesday 26th March at the Guildhall, to get behind the wheels of the latest electric vehicles and find out what benefits they can bring.

The event will be launched by the Mayor and both Danny Kennedy, MLA and Mark Durkin, MLA will be talking on the day regarding the benefits of the ecar.  There will also be an opportunity to test drive the cars in the DOE car park beside the Guildhall.  Everyone is welcome and you can register online using the following link

  1. The ecar Project in Northern Ireland is jointly led by Department for Regional Development and Department of the Environment. The project to date has placed an emphasis on public charge points and has gradually built a comprehensive charge point network in Northern Ireland which complements the network in the Republic of Ireland and places Northern Ireland at the forefront of electric vehicles infrastructure within Europe.
  2. There are many financial incentives available for electric vehicle users, including: exemption from fuel duty; vehicle excise duty; reduced company car tax; van benefit charge; and fuel benefit charge. Business users can also benefit from enhanced capital allowances.
  3. Anyone, including business users, can take advantage of a Government grant that offers a saving of up to £5000 off the list price of a new electric car or up to £8,000 off the list price of a new electric van.
  4. The first 180 private or business users who buy an electric vehicle qualify for a £1,500 grant to install a charge point at their home or workplace before the 31 March 2014
